College of Medicine Celebrates its 50th Anniversary
Under the patronage of HRH Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Riyadh, the College of Medicine at King Saud University held a ceremony on the occasion of its 50th anniversary and the opening of its new western building expansion on November 5th. On this occasion, H.E. Dr. Badran Al-Omar, Rector of King Saud University, said that King Saud University in general and employees of the College of Medicine in particular are proud that HRH Governor of Riyadh has honored and patronized the inauguration of the expansion of the College of Medicine which coincides with its 50th anniversary since it was established in 1387 AH / 1967 AD as the first medical college in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and has contributed over the past five decades to the delivery of healthcare services and education. H.E. added: Ever since, the college has been moving forward persistently to build a generation of workers and leaders in the medical field and in various health fields and specialties, and this celebration is only to highlight the status of this prestigious college, its progress and its achievements as it reinforces the steps taken by King Saud University towards leadership and excellence. H.E. further said that the new expansion of the college was established on an area of 30000 m2, consisting of a basement and four floors, built according to the latest specifications and requirements to further development progress medical excellence. The building contains (70) training rooms that accommodate (1800) students, and offices that accommodate (500) faculty and staff members equipped with the latest technology of electronic medical education. H.E. stated that that the new building will support the college in expanding its educational services, improving quality and establishing new graduate programs that keep abreast of the scientific and practical developments and will contribute, God willing, to the development progress witnessed by our dear kingdom. H.E. pointed out that the College of Medicine at King Saud University is proud of its achievements and patents, making its employees and students competitors to their counterparts in the most prestigious international universities, and they have taken the lead in receiving many awards in the medical and research fields, and he stressed that such accomplishment reflects the Kingdom's great care in science and knowledge led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, and HRH the Crown Prince, may God protect them.
