The glaucoma awareness exhibition was launched by Dr. Faisal bin Abdullah Alseef, the Executive Director of KSUMC Health Affairs, under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Badran Alomar, the Rector of King Saud University. The exhibition was in the outpatient clinics of King Khalid University Hospital organized by King Saud University Medical City and represented by the Ophthalmology Department in collaboration with the Saudi Eye Society under the slogan "protect your eyes from Glaucoma".

Dr. Faisal Alseef, the Executive Director of KSUMC Health Affairs, explained that the exhibition aims to raise the society awareness about the importance of early checkup, which enables doctors to treat the disease in its early stages and prevents deterioration and loss of vision. He also praised the Ophthalmology Department efforts in KSUMC.

Dr. Alseef stressed that KSUMC continues to achieve its mission towards leadership in diagnostic, therapeutic and awareness services. He expressed his hope that the campaign message will reach all the society members.

Furthermore, Dr. Majid Almadhi, the College of Medicine Vice-Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, has expressed his thanks and appreciation to all organizers for their active participation in such important event and to the College of Medicine for their continuous support of educational activities.

In addition, Dr. Faisal Almubarak, Assistant Professor and Consultant Ophthalmologist subspecialized in Glaucoma, said that glaucoma causes nerve tissue damage to the optic nerve causing permanent loss of vision and it is the second leading cause of blindness in the world accounting for 12.3% of cases. He pointed out that the exhibition aims at raising community awareness and educating people on glaucoma and its symptoms, which are often not obvious. Moreover, visitors of the exhibition are given an eye examination, which includes measuring eye pressure, evaluating the optic nerve, performing optical coherence tomography and treating cases diagnosed in the exhibition.

It is worth mentioning that the Ophthalmology Department offers its services to KSUMC visitors in all subspecialties through specialized clinics and operating rooms equipped with the latest surgical and diagnostic technologies where diagnostic and therapeutic methods are periodically and consistently updated. The number of visitors to the specialized glaucoma clinics has reached more than 5000 in 2017, and more than 500 trabeculectomies have been performed in King Abdulaziz University Hospital.
