Riyadh Governor Inaugurates the University Oncology Center in KSUMC
His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Riyadh, inaugurated the University Oncology Center today at King Khalid University Hospital in King Saud University Medical City.
His Excellency Dr. Badran Alomar, Rector of KSU and Chairman of KSUMC Board, delivered a speech during the ceremony held for this occasion, in which he pointed out that the University Oncology Center in KSUMC is the first of its kind in the Kingdom and one of the most important medical centers not only locally but in the Middle East as well. It has a capacity of 100 beds and covers all medical specialties for oncology patients, whether diagnostic, therapeutic or surgical. He added that the center is equipped with the latest advanced radiological technologies and equipment and has highly qualified and trained medical and clinical staff from the world's best centers. He stressed that the spending on the treatment of oncology patients abroad is high due to high costs and amounts to almost 1.5 billion riyals, and having such distinct center in partnership with other centers established by our wise government in several regions within the Kingdom shall provide a significant channel of support to healthcare services rendered to patients in need of care, and fields of research and training. He noted that the establishment of the University Oncology Center in this prosperous era is a furthering of the glorious projects of King Saud University to serve patients who are dear to our hearts.
Dr. Alomar further added that King Saud University has been able to contribute greatly to providing high-quality healthcare services through its hospitals and medical centers under the University Medical City. He also confirmed that the university has more strategic and ambitious projects and shall continue to work hard towards achieving their desired outcomes to meet the expectations of our insightful government to reach the highest levels in medical, scientific and constructional fields in this prestigious university.
Moreover, he expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince for their continuous efforts in supporting the progress, development and advancement of our beloved country, appreciating the role of His Royal Highness the Governor of Riyadh in sponsoring and honoring the inauguration of the University Oncology Center in King Saud University Medical City.
"The University Oncology Center provides comprehensive health and medical services for more than 16 joint oncology programs, as well as graduate programs, specialized studies programs and research projects that contribute to bridge the gap in the health services level or providing health staff in the field of oncology" Dr. Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Almuammar, CEO, said.
Maram Bakhsh, The Director of Quality Management at King Khalid University Hospital, noted in her speech that the hospital received the diamond degree from the Canadian accreditation. The Medical City passed the comprehensive evaluation after the Canadian Accreditation team visit who evaluated the hospital's compliance with the international recognized quality standards. This degree considered as the highest degree of the Canadian accreditation that confirms the quality of services provided by the Medical City, which made it compete with its counterparts around the world. She also added that the degree reflects the high standards in the application of patient safety standards, the provision of a safe environment and infection control, which contributes in improving the quality of health care provided and ensures the provision of service to patients and visitors very effectively. In addition, she pointed out during her speech that this success would not have been achieved only by the efforts of the employees of this prestigious health institution.
