He indicated that scoliosis is a disease that becomes more severe when neglected to treat, and the condition deteriorates over time, which increases the severity of the curve, and causes dangerous complications for the body such as the displacement of the vertebrae and the narrowing of the thoracic cavity area , which may affect the breathing process, pressure on the spinal cord or nerves, and increase the patient’s pain.
Dr. Alsiddiqi explained that there is a type of scoliosis known as congenital scoliosis, where the patient has, since birth, deformities in some of the back vertebrae or a difference in the feet length, or ribs problems due to a neurological or muscular disease such as partial or complete atrophy of the muscles, lack of food or back muscle atrophy. Adding that the methods of treating scoliosis for children if the deviation is from 25 to less than 40 degrees, the patient wears a medical belt that prevents the increase of the deviation only, while if it exceeds 40 degrees, surgical intervention is required. For adults if the deviation is from 10 to 40 degrees does not require any procedure except to follow up the case with the specialist doctor to check that there are no complications, while if it exceeds 40 degrees, surgical intervention is required.
