Inauguration of the 18th Forum of People with Cochlear Implants Virtually
Dr. Ahmad Hersi, CEO of KSUMC, inaugurated the virtual 18th Forum of People with Cochlear Implants at King Abdullah Ear Specialist Center (KAESC) in KAUH in the presence of Prof. Fawzi Aljasser, CMO of KSUMC, Dr. Saleh Almuhsin, CAFO of KSUMC, Dr. Fareed Alzahrani, Medical Director of KAUH, Dr. Abdulrahman Hajar, Director of KAESC, and many other executive and medical directors.
Dr. Abdulrahman Hajar, Director of KAESC, pointed out that hearing impairment is one of the most common physical impairments and affects 2 in 1000 newborns, accounting for 10% of the world's population. As for its causes, Dr. Hajar stressed that genetics plays a major role in developing hearing impairment and studies have shown that 50% of people with hearing impairment have a family history of hearing impairments while 90% of people with hearing impairment in Western countries do not have a family history of it. He also emphasized the importance of early detection and treatment as treatment may be more difficult after the age of five, and he expressed his thanks to the Rector of KSU for sponsoring this event.
Moreover, Dr. Fareed Alzahrani, Medical Director of KAUH and Ear Surgery and Cochlear Implant Consultant at KAESC, said that KAESC is witnessing an evident advancement in cochlear implants and hearing aids as it is equipped with the latest technologies and has highly qualified medical staff, making it a preferred destination for patients from around the world. He further added that KAESC is not only concerned with treating patients, but also focuses on medical research and has published distinguished medical papers in the most prestigious and highly-ranked international journals in addition to training and graduating highly skilled surgeons to ensure the provision of top-quality medical services.
