The King Abdullah Ear Specialist Center at King Saud University Medical City organized the 23rd Annual Gathering for Cochlear Implant Recipients. The event was held under the patronage of the Acting President of the University, Prof. Ali bin Mohammed Mesmali, and was inaugurated on his behalf by the CEO of the University Medical City, Prof. Ahmed Hersi. The ceremony was attended by the Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Bandar Al-Jafen, alongside several medical and academic leaders, supporters, and the families of the patients.
The program commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a speech from the Director of the Center, Dr. Fida Al-Muhawes. She reviewed the center’s journey in serving cochlear implant patients and highlighted the qualitative achievements in advanced medical care and audio-linguistic rehabilitation. Dr. Al-Muhawes emphasized that the center is witnessing significant development thanks to its specialized medical expertise and state-of-the-art technologies, which have made it a reference for research collaboration with local and international medical and academic institutions.
She further explained that hearing impairment is among the most prevalent physical disabilities, noting that genetic factors are a primary cause in many cases. She stressed the vital importance of early detection and intervention to enhance rehabilitation opportunities, social integration, and overall quality of life.
The gathering featured a visual presentation showcasing the experiences of several cochlear implant recipients, reflecting the positive impact of the rehabilitation program in empowering beneficiaries to develop hearing, speech, and social integration skills. The event also included a national operetta involving several cochlear implant recipients from across the Kingdom, embodying the message of hope and empowerment championed by the center.
The occasion marked the graduation of 17 children who successfully completed the linguistic rehabilitation program—a step that reflects the integration between medical and surgical intervention and the specialized rehabilitation programs provided by the center.
At the conclusion of the event, participating entities, supporting companies, and assisting departments were honored for their contributions to the success of the gathering and their support for cochlear implant recipients. Meanwhile, the center reaffirmed its commitment to providing integrated services according to the highest standards, contributing to the academic and social empowerment of beneficiaries and enhancing their quality of life.
